22.1 Verb Conjugation Review

You've learned already how verbs are conjugated to reflect different people. Take a look back at the very first verb you learned. Note how this indicates now, today, or currently.

Ich lese die Nachrichten. I read the news. Wir lesen die Nachrichten. We read the news.
Du liest die Nachrichten. You read the news. Ihr lest die Nachrichten. You all read the news.
Er liest die Nachrichten. He reads the news. Sie lesen die Nachrichten. They read the news.
Sie liest die Nachrichten. She reads the news. Sie lesen die Nachrichten. You read the news.

Sometimes the vowel changes for the du and er/sie/es forms, however the verb endings stay consistent for the most part.

22.3 More German (Verb) Efficiency

German is so efficient we can even use the present tense to talk about the future. It is very practical to use one verb form to describe two times! Take a look at a sample conversation describing the future with the present tense.

Johann: Was machst du heute?
Gisela: Heute lese ich die Nachrichten, gehe zur Arbeit und besuche am Abend eine Freundin.
